Make Your Own Walter Sobchak Mii
I made some celebrity Mii’s as described on FamousMii.com and was inspired to create my own Walter Sobchak Mii. I’ve included screenshots below as to what options I chose to make him. You’ll have to use your own judgement for sizing and position of certain features. This is a first attempt at making a Mii of anyone outside of my family. If you have any suggestions or know where I can get a better one, please let me know.

John Goodman is a big guy

Face

He doesn’t really have scruff in the movie, but for some reason it looks funny without it.

Eyebrows

Shooting Glasses

Moustache

Beard. The one on the bottom right is more like the one he had in the movie, but it doesn’t look quite right.
IKEA to make more profit in 2007?
I usually refer to products built by IKEA as “polished turds”, but the Jerker series of workstations is different. They’re contructed from heavy guage steel and medium density fiberboard (MDF). Once assembled, they are – in very un-IKEA-like fashion – very sturdy. We’ve used these desks in our office about just about a year and so far they’ve proven themselves to be great.

The IKEA Jerker
We have a new employee starting work on Monday, so you can imagine my dismay when I swung down to my local (not really that local) IKEA to pick up another Jerker workstation only to find they’ve been discontinued. I had to settle for what logically seems to be its replacement; the Fredrik workstation. The Fredrik workstation has a more pleasing appearance than the Jerker, but isn’t near as stout or durable. The IKEA website lists it for $99, but locally it costs $149.
Assembling it was like taking a class on Clever Engineering. Each step of assembly brought a knowing smile to my face. Only four screws hold the whole thing together! Everything else is an ingenious system of interlocking clips further strengthened by the MDF shelves. Cleverness aside, this desk was obviously engineered for ease of assembly and production efficiency. Once assembled, it’s clear that this desk probably won’t last more than two or three years. The Jerker will probably last ten.
Oh well, it’s all in the name of profits progress.

How Could I Have Been So Wrong?
Upon reflection, I thought it’d be important for me to make this statement:
After much research, it’s my opinion that David Pogue can certainly not be counted as an Apple fanboy lover just because he wrote 24 books related to the Mac and other Apple products in addition to a book titled “The Microsloth Joke Book“. Haven’t we all done that? To be perfectly fair, there are a couple of Windows books thrown into the mix that prove beyond a doubt that he is indeed “objective” and not biased towards, or soft on Apple in any way. His point is further proven by the great lengths he went to in order to produce this video defending claims that Microsoft copied certain items and ideas from Apple’s OSX.
There is a small mistake in the video though. It seems to imply that Apple invented Widgets and Spotlight. Both of which are not Apple inventions in concept. Unfortunately, you’ll have to click the link in order to watch, since in traditional old-media “Come-Visit-My-Site” fashion, the New York Times has disabled embedding of this YouTube video.
UPDATE: Someone just sent me the video below. Inspiration for David’s video? You tell me.
