Behold
My new truck (bought a month-and-a-half ago):
I’m selling my Nissan Titan to my friend Jeff. My new truck, known as an SRT-10, is a Dodge Ram 1500 with the engine from a Dodge Viper in it. It also has big Brembo brakes and a “sport” suspension on it. After having it for a little while here are some random thoughts I have:
- It’s a good parking lot drifter.
- Rides like a rock. Even on smooth Arizona roads.
- Cab is much smaller than the Titan’s.
- Various rattles and creaks existed when I drove it off the lot (with 19 miles on the odometer).
- Pulling out into traffic is a breeze and requires a very small gap.
- People often mistake V-10 exhaust note for a diesel.
- Feels like you’re being whacked in the head with a 7-iron when the automatic transmission shifts gears.
- Valet and car wash guys fight over who gets to drive it.
- Brakes stop the truck very quickly.
- It’s impossible to modulate the brakes, especially at low speeds. They’re either off or on. There is little inbetween.
- High-friction brake pads squeal like a piggy.
- Column shift gear selector in a “performance” vehicle?
- Seating for 6.
- “Check Engine” light came on at 700 miles. The guys at Auto Zone looked at the error code and said it was something emissions related. I’ll take it in to the dealer when I’m good and ready.
- It looks kind of NASCARish to me. That’s not a good thing.
- Observed fuel “economy” is 8.8 Miles Per Gallon
- New environmental license plate reads “9 MPG”
- The fastest pickup ever produced.
- The radio sucks compared to my Titan’s
- There is no traction control or stability problem. That is a good thing.
There are a lot of negatives in that list, so you may be asking yourself, “Why would he buy that truck?”
Sitting on top of 500 HP is an amazing amount of fun. Having the ability to smoke the tires at will and drift through the parking lot is extremely entertaining. If you’re not into childish behavior like that, than this isn’t the vehicle for you.

Like a truck, OoooOooooooh, like a truck!
Get with the times, Johnny… “This is Oooouuuurrrrr Country”
Additional item:
* Mod chip to remove Horsepower restrictions in first gear
That restriction is known to DCX as “Torque Management”.
I’ll get that fixed.
I will not allow my husband OR your friend Jimmy to read this post. I’ve successfully convinced him that 500HP is WAY too many horses for cruising Telegraph and the GT 500 won’t accomodate 2 car seats anyway. Once he sees “seats 6″, half my argument is blown out the window.
It not only seats 6, it seats 6 adults!
It would be a horrible truck to own in Michigan, anyhow. It’d get shaken to pieces on cratered Michigan roads (let alone the replacement cost of $1200/ea for bending a wheel), and would be near impossible to drive in the winter with it’s wide tires, 525 lb-ft. of torque, and lack of electronic traction and stability control.
