That last post reminds me of a story I tell to my friends often.

My grandfather would often address young men as “short pecker”, as in “How’s it goin’ short pecker?” He’d not only say this to me and my friends, but he would say it to people at work. It wasn’t an insult or really any direct sexual reference; it was just a phrase he used in an endearing sense.

A long time ago my grandfather (ever the self-promoter) named a product after himself, or his nickname anyway, it was called: The “Windy”. The product remained largely unchanged for quite sometime, but in the mid-nineties the engineering department made some considerable improvements to it and named this incarnation the “Windy” SP. The SP publicly stood for Special Production, but internally and officially it stood for Short Pecker. So many long-term employees have left the company since we sold it that I’m not sure if anyone that still works there knows the history behind that.
